My first company was a landscape construction business.
I was young and very inexperienced, but I was observant.
I did not have my contractor’s license but wanted contractor pricing.
The problem was that nobody would sell to me.
So, I just walked around the places I wanted to buy from.
I noticed that all the seasoned pros in lumber yards, hardware stores, and plant nurseries carried binders or clipboards. They also wore boots and Carhart jackets.
The next day, I bought a fancy aluminum clipboard/binder combo (two birds with one stone), boots, and a new jacket.
I waited a week or so and returned to where I wanted to get that sweet contractor discount and walked in with my new gear like I owned the place.
Nobody questioned me.
Nobody asked me for my license number.
They were glad to have my business.
I was one of them.
There is no stopping you from blowing through obstacles.
As they say: “You can just do things.”
